Coordination
Meetings with Japanese Institutions

The IDB plays a catalytic role
in mobilizing additional resources to its borrowing member countries
in Latin America and the Caribbean. Through cofinancing, parallel
financing and technical cooperation arrangements with some Japanese
institutions for IDB-supported projects. The BankÕs main Japanese
partners in accomplishing this goal are the Japanese Bank for
International Cooperation (JBIC) and the Japan International Cooperation
Agency (JICA). The IDB holds annual regular coordination meetings
with JBIC in Washington D.C. and Tokyo to discuss policy and strategic
issues of common interest for both development institutions in
the Latin American and Caribbean region and to review the advance
in ongoing cofinancing opportunities. The Bank also holds ad-hoc
coordination meetings with JICA to identify cooperation activities.
