What is DATAINTAL? DATAINTAL is a system of import and export statistics of countries in the Americas. It consists of programs and databases allowing users to quickly and easily query the data and obtain current and historical trade data in a table format that can be printed or imported into other programs. It has been developed by the Institute for the Integration of Latin America and the Caribbean (INTAL) in Buenos Aires, Argentina, a unit of the Integration and Regional Programs Department, Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) together with the Unit of Statistics and Quantitative Analysis of the same Department. INTAL has been processing trade data since 1984 mainly for internal use in the Bank. In 1990 the Institute began distribution of the data to foreign trade research and promotion organizations in several Latin American countries and, in 1998 the first DATAINTAL version in CD-Rom format was widely distributed upon demand.
Who needs this CD? This program has been designed to meet the needs of decision-makers, researchers and analysts concerned with international trade. DATAINTAL is an essential tool for analyzing historical data, looking at trends, gauging the competition, or discovering potential new markets.

What do the different nomenclatures mean?
- Depending on the year, the Tariff Nomenclature of each country is based in the different versions of the Harmonized System. This nomenclature reflects the maximum available degree of detail in each country and generally refers to specific products. This allows searchs on particular products, groups of products and more generalized queries.
- The International Standard Industrial Classification (ISIC) classifies products by industry. It is normally used for classifying and reporting national statistics on domestic production.
- The Standard International Trade Classification (SITC) is commonly used for trade statistics.
- UNCTAD is a classification mostly used for economic analysis of trends. It groups all SITC classified trade into 6 categories.
