This Monitoring
and Evaluation of Projects (M&E) course progresses from the
more general to the more specific. It begins with an introduction
of terms and concepts and the importance of M&E, and then
moves to working with the tools and techniques of planning for
M&E in projects in progressively greater detail.
Note:
The Logical Framework for Project Design e-course is a prerequisite
for the M&E course. If you have not taken the Logical Framework
course or do not have experience in the use of the logical framework,
it is strongly suggested that you take the course prior to initiating
this M&E course.
What
does the IDB's Monitoring and Evaluation of Projects e-course cover?
- Introduction
to M&E terms and concepts.
- Distinguishing
between project monitoring, formative evaluation and summative
evaluation.
- Recognizing
basic elements for the planning of M&E.
- The importance
of getting to outcomes.
- Identifying
the critical attributes of well-formulated Indicators.
- Identifying
the critical attributes of well-formulated Assumptions that can
be monitored.
- Identifying
information needs and recognizing the appropriate way of applying
different information gathering techniques.
- Guidelines
for preparing recommendations.
- M&E in
the Inter-American Development Bank's project cycle, including
the Project Performance Monitoring Report (PPMR), the Mid-Term
Evaluation, the Project Alert Information System (PAIS), and the
Project Completion Report (PCR).
