Strengthening Social Protection - Responses To Crises and Urban Challenges.
The objective of the Caribbean sub-regional meeting will be to provide a forum for regional social policy practitioners to examine policy options for addressing challenges being posed to the sustainability of social protection programs resulting from the ongoing global economic downturn. Specifically, the workshop will: (i) assess the risks faced by social safety net operations; (ii) identify possibilities for coordination and collaboration in development of strategic approaches to the protection of vulnerable groups; (iii) share lessons learned in the development and implementation of conditional cash transfer schemes; and (v) share lessons learned in the design and implementation of poverty targeting systems.

Employment and Labor Insertion Policies in the Poverty and Social Protection Network |
The Poverty and Social Protection Network celebrated it’s IX Hemispheric Meeting in Washington, D.C. on September 13 and 14, 2007. The meeting gathered high-level public officials in charge of decision-making in social policy in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as viceministers of social development from the region.

Caribbean Meeting: Effective policies to meet the MDG in the Caribbean |
The First Subregional Caribbean Meeting of the Poverty Reduction and Social Protection Network was held in Kingston, Jamaica, on February 23 and 24, 2006. This meeting, co-organized by the IADB and the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ), fostered an open discussion among representatives of Jamaica, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, and the IADB. Once again, the Poverty Reduction and Social Protection Network was recognized as a key instrument to transfer knowledge among Caribbean countries on strategies to overcome poverty and inequality. In the meeting also participated officials from other development organizations, including the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) based in Barbados.

The Southern Cone Subregional Meeting of the Poverty Network was in Buenos Aires on November 16 and 17 |
The members of the Poverty Reduction and Social Protection Network from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay met in Buenos Aires on November 16 and 17 for their 2006 Subregional Meeting.
