Sub-Programs

The Japan-IDB Scholarship Program  consists of three sub-program, based on the location of the university of study and its academic calendar.

Northern Hemisphere Program

Students planning to study at universities located in the North America, Central America, Europe and the Caribbean for students starting in September/October should apply to the Northern Hemisphere Program.

Application forms are distributed in March each year. The deadline for applications is mid-May, and selection is in early July.  Unfortunately if the university that you plan to attend does not coincide with this admissions cycle, we cannot consider your application.

The academic year of the Northern Hemisphere Program is defined to be from September of a given year to August of the following year. Even if an applicant's proposed academic year starts in January, he/she must submit the application form, under the Northern Hemisphere Program, by mid-May of the previous year. 

Note: Currently the Japanese Government is focusing and giving priority to students who wants to pursue a Master degree of one year program.  No more MBA programs.

Southern Hemisphere Program

Students planning to study at universities the South America countries starting in March should apply to the Southern Hemisphere Program. Application forms are distributed in November of the previous year. The deadline for applications is mid-January, and the selection is in mid-February.

The academic year of the Southern Hemisphere Program is defined to be from March to December. Even if an applicant's proposed academic year starts in August, he/she must submit the application form, under the Southern Hemisphere Program, by mid-January.

Special Program for Studies at Japanese Universities (SPJU)

Students entering a Master's program at any university located in Japan should apply to the SPJU Program. Programs are available in both English and Japanese.

The Japan-IDB Scholarship Program has a PARTNERSHIP with certain graduate schools, departments or faculties of several universities in Japan. Please take note that having a provisional admission letter from the university does not mean that you will automatically be granted a scholarship.

Different schedules for applying to the scholarship are established for following partnership universities in order to accommodate the universities' admission schedules to ours, as well as to accommodate those univeristies that have academic programs that start only in the spring semester.

*Spring Admission (academic program starts only in April)

In the case of  spring admission applicants are considered for scholarships under the following schedule. The application forms are available through the request of each universities at the beginning of November. The deadline for application is the third week of January. Selection is in mid-February.

*Fall Admission (academic program starts in September or October)

The application forms are available through the request of each universities or this webside link by mid-january. The deadline for application is the third week of march. Selection is by the end of April.

For other Master's Programs offered in English by these partnership universities, applications must be submitted under the regular schedule of the Special Program for Studies at Japanese Universities, as stated in the first paragraph of this section.
