Northern and Southern Hemisphere Scholarship Programs
|
1) Be a citizen of one of the borrowing member countries of the Bank. (click here) |
|
2) Be under the age of 40. |
|
3) Be in good health. |
|
4) Hold a bachelor's degree or its equivalent in the social sciences, business or public administration, or another development-related technical discipline. |
|
5) Have obtained his/her university degree with superior grades. |
|
6) Have at least two years of work experience in a public agency or in an organization devoted to research or teaching in the country of origin or residence. |
|
7) Be currently admitted in a Master's degree program in the social sciences, education or public administration, engineering, or another development-related technical discipline (except , MBA, law and medicine). **The scholarship are available only to those students who has been accepted to a university but have not yet begun their studies. |
|
8) Be prepared to return to his/her native country upon completion of studies and work for at least two years in order to apply enhanced knowledge and skills toward helping accelerate economic and social development. Note: The Japan-IDB Scholarship Program has a employment restriction policy in which scholarship recipients are not permitted to work within the IDB, nor the World Bank, IMF or any international organization during their studies and for two years after completing their academic program. |

9) Not be an Executive Director, their alternate, staff, nor consultant of the Inter-American Development Bank, a blood relative up to the fourth degree, or a relative by marriage up to the second degree. |
|
10) Applicants must not be elected or appointed political officials during the application process and/or in the last two years of their work experience. (i.e. ambassadors, government ministers or vice-ministers, cabinet secretaries, or equivalent.) |
|
11) The scholarship is to finance studies in a country other than the home country or the country of residence of the applicant. |
|

Special Program for Studies at Japanese Universities (SPJU) |
1) Be a citizen of one of the borrowing member countries of the Bank.( click here) |
|
2) Be under the age of 40. |
|
3) Be in good health. |
|
4) Hold a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in the social sciences, business or public administration, or another development related technical discipline. |
|
5) Have obtained his/her university degree with superior grades. |
|
6) Be currently admitted in a Master´s degree program in the social sciences, business or public administration, or another development related technical discipline (i.e. engineering.) MBA, Law and Medical degree programs are eligible programs in the SPJU program. |
|
7) Have some work experience in a public agency or in an organization devoted to research or teaching. Candidates from the private sector with work experience in a development related area will also be considered. Also, candidates pursuing an advanced degree are eligible to apply. |

8) Be prepared to return to your native country upon completion of studies and work for at least two years. (For the SPJU Program, it is not specifically required to work in a sector helping accelerate economic and social development.) |

12) The scholarship provides the following annual benefits: a) Full tuition at a recognized university. b) A monthly subsistence allowance for one person. c) A travel allowance – return trip at economy class fare. d) The cost of medical and accident insurance obtained through the university.
e) Japanese language school tuition, if so desired, for the first academic year. |
