In 1997, the Laventille and Environs Beautification Committee obtained government funding to paint huge likenesses of Trinidad’s two national birds, the elegant scarlet ibis and the coco loco, on the sides of the water tanks atop Picton Hill. The tops of the tanks were painted with the notes of a steel pan. The images are visible from land and air. Photo by David Mangurian—IDB.
