Maxwell
Taylor (Nassau, 1938)
Lord, Am Tired, Woodcut, 1996
"A founding
member of the B-Cause group (Nassau, 1991), Taylor is one of the
key figures in the development of art in the Bahamas during
the last 30 years. He helped his fellow artists to break away
from what was long considered "the picture postcard genre." Taylor
became acquainted with printmaking in New York during short stays
at the Pratt Institute and the Art Student League. This particular
work deals with the issue of racial oppression and exclusion,
a legacy of slavery."
