crown jewel for an ecotourism lodge is a tower or a tramway to enable
tourists to observe the wealth of life in the forest canopy. But
in a number of places in Guatemala and neighboring countries, these
facilities already exist, thanks to the engineering zeal of the
ancient Mayas. Where else can tourists climb gleaming limestone
temples and look down at troupes of monkeys and flocks of noisy
parrots? The IDB is financing a project called Mundo Maya (Mayan
World), which will develop tourist itineraries linking prime natural
and cultural sites in the region. |
