Responding to the Caribbean food crisis
At the 29th Annual Meeting of the CARICOM Heads of Government Conference, July 1-4, IDB President Luis Alberto Moreno said that rising food and oil prices are hitting the Caribbean more than any other region in the Western Hemisphere. But he said that the IDB and the Caribbean Development Bank are studying ways of reducing food prices in the region through an in-depth assessment of cost structures and options for strengthening regional food production clusters. >Read more

Promoting capital market financing in Peru
The IDB’s Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF) and the Lima Stock Exchange (BVL) have launched a program to encourage mid-size companies to access the Peruvian capital market through the stock exchange. > Read more

A Uruguayan non-profit organization will receive US$600,000 to promote entrepreneurship and employment for youth and women in poor neighborhoods in Montevideo. > Read more
