USE THIS TOOLKIT IN THE CLASSROOM!

  • Plan and carry out video dialogues in the classroom. Show video documentary and engage students in a discussion. Discussion questions can include:
    1. What can be done to encourage children to stay in school and off the streets?
    2. What would you change in your school to make it better?
  • Organize and mobilize students
    1. Organize students to plan a day to distribute campaign materials.
    2. Organize a festival to further inform the community about the Don't Call Me Street Kid! Campaign.
    3. Download campaign materials (i.e. fact sheet, poster, communications guide) and distribute to other schools.
  • Creatively incorporate campaign ideas into school curricula
    1. Ask students to write a poem about the issue.
    2. Conduct workshops on the CRC and children's rights.
    3. Use Internet technology to investigate local, national and regional NGOs working with children.

KEEP CHILDREN IN SCHOOL!

  • Be perceptive to the needs of children and consider their different realities.
  • Encourage children to be participants and contributors in their learning and development processes.
  • Engage children in learning through creative and alternative techniques.
    1. Whenever possible, link art and entertainment to educational contents.
    2. Provide opportunities for discovery of cultural heritage, such as creating a museum or organizing a cultural heritage forum.
    3. Encourage creativity and cultural expression through disciplines such as music, theater and dance.

  • Teach useful skills and allow opportunities for job training. Provide training for income- generating activities in various sectors (i.e. industry, public services and the arts).
  • Enhance the ability of the community to participate and contribute within schools.
  • Establish partnerships with NGOs working with kids
