GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The objective of this nonreimbursable technical coopera-
tion is to provide training for approximately 650 tech-
nicians and professionals from public institutions in the
Bank's member countries. The areas of training are of
high priority for the countries' economic and social
development. The program is also aimed at strengthening
the countries' capacities to organize and establish
efficient national training and education systems.
The program has been divided into two subprograms: (a) a
scholarship subprogram for studies in Israel, Sweden and
Spain, including approximately 150 scholarships for
short- or medium-term technical training courses and
internships for studies in recognized centers and insti-
tutes which offer international courses in English,
Spanish, French and Portuguese; and (b) a subprogram for
courses in beneficiary countries, including 20 short
courses in the beneficiary countries to train approxi-
mately 500 technicians and professionals in various
technical areas, using local facilities and instructors
from Israel, Spain and Sweden.
