This exhibition pays tribute to Colombia,

The IDB Cultural Center is pleased to pay tribute to Colombia and to the city of Cartagena de Indias, this year's site for the Bank's Annual Meeting, by presenting, as the nucleus of this exhibit, the work of four Colombian master artists of the 1950s generation - Enrique Grau, Edgar Negret, Alejandro Obregón and Eduardo Ramírez Villamizar. It is not possible to understand the extent to which this generation transformed the national art scene, or to evaluate their contribution to international art, without including in the exhibit the achievements of those who preceded them. For that reason, we have also selected important works from various artists who remained active until the end of the 1940s. Presenting the work of four masters in one venue is a difficult task, made possible for us thanks to the enthusiastic cooperation and good will of the artists who cooperated throughout the planning and realization of this project. We also received valuable assistance from various public and private institutions, above all Colombia's Ministry of Culture. We are indebted to all who helped us to assemble this remarkable exhibit, which pays homage to the richness of Colombia's art and the admirable creativity of its artists.
