SOCIALLY RESPONSIVE GLOBALIZATION
Poverty and Inequality Unit, Sustainable Development Department
Integration and Regional Programs Department
Centro Cultural Estación Mapocho
Sala de Seminarios 2 Sunday, March 18 - 2:456:30 p.m.
Human conditions have improved more in the past century than in the rest of history. But the distribution of the gains is highly unequal. The gap between the poorest and the richest countries has doubled in the last twenty years. Worldwide inequality between individuals has risen too. What changes are needed in the international rules governing the exchange of capital, goods and labor to achieve greater equity? How can access to technological advances on the part of developing countries be enhanced? How can development cooperationaid and debt relief, for examplebecome more effective? What are the responsibilities of business, governments, NGOs and unions? What role should be played by international organizations? These key questions will be addressed by a distinguished group of panelists composed of analysts, leaders and policymakers of worldwide recognition.
