SEMINARS 2001
NEW PARTNERSHIPS FOR THE XXI CENTURY:
LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN AND ASIA-PACIFIC

Integration and Regional Programs Department

Centro Cultural Estación Mapocho
Casa Amarilla Saturday, March 17 - 10:00 a.m. to 6:45 p.m.

The seminar New Partnerships for the Twenty-first Century: Latin America and the Caribbean and Asia-Pacific will bring together high-level representatives from governments, the private sector, the academic community and NGOs from the Latin American, Caribbean and Asia-Pacific regions to examine existing commercial, social, political and cultural ties and discuss ways to enhance them. During the seminar, a Partnership Agreement between the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB)/Japan Program and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) will be signed. Under this agreement, two new initiatives to improve interaction among the Latin American, Caribbean and Asia-Pacific regions will be launched during the seminar. These initiatives will be facilitated by the Japan Program and the Institute for the Integration of Latin America and the Caribbean (INTAL), both from the Integration and Regional Programs Department of the IDB, in collaboration with the ADB. The first initiative will be the creation of a Transpacific Business Network to expand cross-regional interaction through expanded access to trade and private sector investment information and with the creation of networks and alliances among these regions. The second will involve the launching of a Latin America/Caribbean and Asia/Pacific Economics and Business Association to bring together researchers, policy makers and private sector analysts working on important aspects of the relations among these regions.
