      Program Components of the IDB-New Orleans Youth Summit

      Fifty-six young people from the Americas will be selected to exchange experiences and discuss their work with representatives of youth organizations, non-governmental organizations (NGO’s), governments, the private sector, and international organizations and subsequently examine best practices, extract lessons learned and draw practical conclusions.

      The IDB/IIC-New Orleans Youth Summit will:

      • Present findings on best practices, successful programs and effective partnerships for building human and social capital among youth.
      • Analyze existing and potential policies that would create a more supportive environment for youth development and participation.
      • Highlight the economic and social contributions of young people at the community and national levels.
      • Emphasize the strategic importance of investing in youth development and participation.
      • Discussions will focus on the principal theme of the Annual Meeting - technology - as well as key issues that affect youth in the region, such as education/training, employment, health, and community service and participation. As the culmination of these activities, a youth representative will address the IDB/IIC Boards of Governors to highlight the importance of investing in youth development and participation.

      Calling all young people!

      We are looking for 56 young people from the Americas who meet the following criteria:

      • Aged between 18 and 30;
      • Citizen of one the following countries in the Americas:
        Argentina, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, United States, Uruguay and Venezuela.
      • Personal commitment to economic and social change;
      • Vision, creativity, and determination;
      • Participation in community service activities and/or in a youth-led or youth-serving organization;
      • Capacity/ability to motivate, inspire, and mobilize fellow youth;
      • Demonstrated potential for leadership and academic achievement;
      • Ability to communicate in English or Spanish.
