| The countries of Latin America and the Caribbean region face difficult challenges responding to climate change. This special afternoon session will center around the Banks initiative to assist the countries in the region in dealing with the challenges posed by climate change and will be held at Tulane University, in collaboration with the Freeman School of Business and the Payson Center for International Development and Technology Transfer. This Bank initiative on climate change is expected to assist the countries in the region to improve their capacity and ability to respond to the climate change challenge using innovative market mechanisms. Therefore, this session will focus on the issues of climate change, energy efficiency, renewable energy, carbon sequestration, carbon finance and sustainable development in the region and offers a productive forum where public and private sector representatives can discuss their various perspectives on these issues.
The discussion will be fueled by the Banks climate change initiative as well as a general background piece on specific projects and programs undertaken by the Bank and the countries in the region. Moreover, the new market opportunities that are opening up in the area of climate change will be explored and discussed to assist in determining the anticipated effectiveness of the Banks proposed climate change initiative from both the public and private sectors viewpoints.
This session will be followed by a reception to be hosted by the President of Tulane University from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
