IDB President Enrique V.
Iglesias will present a silver tray to Kubitscheks daughter, Maristela
Lopes, at a ceremony attended by the governors of the Bank and many
high-level officials on the eve of the IDBs Annual Meeting, to
be held March 11-13. Kubitschek, born 100 years
ago, founded the capital of Brasilia while serving as president and
was decisive in the establishment of the IDB, whose creation he prompted
by a letter to President Eisenhower and later promoted through his development
plan, Operação Pan-Americana. Outside of Brazil, as well as in his own country, Kubitschek has been widely praised for his contributions to building unity and integration of the Americas and for his efforts and ideas in promoting economic and social development in the framework of democracy. |
