The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is carrying out a public consultation process on the review of the need for a General Capital Increase (GCI-9) of the Ordinary Capital of the institution, and a replenishment of the concessional Fund for Special Operations. The IDB is the largest source of multilateral financing for Latin America and the Caribbean; the last capital increase was in 1994.

SEVENTH MEETING OF LATIN AMERICAN COMPETITION FORUM
The seventh meeting of the Latin American Competition Forum will be held in Santiago (Chile), on 9-10 September 2009. The agenda includes discussions on: i) Using Leniency to fight Hard Core Cartels; and ii) Competition Issues in Telecommunications. Colombia will be subject to a Peer Review of Competition Law and Policy.
The Forum promotes dialogue, consensus building and networking between competition policymakers and law enforcers, and the identification and dissemination of best practices in competition law and policy in a collegial setting. Emphasis is on sharing experience. Participants are senior officials of Latin American competition institutions. Competition experts and international organisations are included to provide additional perspectives and experience.

Encuentro Latino Europeo Conference 2009
You are cordially invited to attend the Encuentro Latino Europeo Conference 2009, which will be held on the 27th and the 28 th of May in The Hague.
The themes to be discussed the first day of the event will be Democracy and Politics as well as Democracy and Development . The 28th will start with a keynote speech, followed by a panel discussion for experts and parliamentarians concerning Development Effectiveness. For both events, there is only a limited number of seats available.
Participation is by invitation only. If you are interested in participating in the conference, please send us a message mentioning if you will participate in the conference the 27th of May and/or in the panel discussion the 28th of May.

El Centro de Desarrollo de la OCDE y el Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BID) tienen el placer de invitarles al seminario de reflexión América Latina frente a la crisis económica mundial: ¿qué perspectivas? que tendrá lugar el día 20 de mayo de 2009 de 9 a.m. a 11 a.m. en la Maison de l’Amérique Latine (217, Boulevard Saint Germain – 75007 París).
Este seminario presentará las principales conclusiones de un nuevo estudio del BID llamado “Dilemas de política económica en tiempos sin precedentes: Cómo afrontar la crisis en América Latina y el Caribe”, en presencia de uno de sus autores, el Sr. Alejandro Izquierdo, así como los últimos estudios del Centro de Desarrollo de la OCDE. Los participantes analizarán en particular el impacto de la crisis en América Latina, las opciones y los retos de la política económica a los que la región podría verse enfrentada y propondrán posibles directrices a seguir por parte de los responsables políticos y los organismos internacionales.
