ETHICS
AND DEVELOPMENT DAY
AT THE IDB
Inter-American
Development Bank (IDB) President Enrique V. Iglesias will
inaugurate on Jan. 11, 2005 a day dedicated to analyzing the
relationship between ethics and development, a theme adopted
by the IDB and the government of Norway as the basis to create
the Inter-American Initiative of Social Capital, Ethics and
Development.
Norway’s Prime Minister, Kjell Magne Bondevik, wil also
give a videoconference on his countries experience on ethics
and development, while Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen, the author
of pioneering studies on the issue, will give the keynote
address.
Following the inauguration, the event will consist of three
panels on the new ethical dilemmas of Latin America, the importance
of ethics, and the ethical responsibilities of developed countries.
The day will end with a special lecture by Judge Eva Joly,
who was awarded the Integrity Award by Transparency International.
This is the second Ethics and Development Day hosted by the
IDB. The first event was attended by over 600 participants
including ambassadors; IDB specialists; representatives from
the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the Pan-American
Health Organization and the Organization of American States;
academics; delegates from numerous governmental organizations;
corporate executives; and representatives from public and
private organizations.
Registration is free and open to the general public and must
be made online (http://www.iadb.org/ethics)
. Space is limited.
