The Inter-American Initiative on Social Capital,
Ethics and Development of the Inter-American Development Bank
(IDB), the Government of Israel and the Israel–Ibero
America Cultural Institute organized the Workshop “Mobilizing
the Social Capital for Social Inclusion”, which was
held in the city of Jerusalem, Israel, between the 4th and
9th of September, 2005.
The Workshop’s objective was to gather Latin American
governmental authorities and NGO’s leaders to work jointly
in the development of new initiatives for social capital mobilization
oriented to social inclusion, utilizing the extensive experience
of the Israeli organizations in this field. Since its creation,
the State of Israel has worked to improve social disadvantaged
sectors’ reality through the mobilization of its social
capital, developing a long tradition in civil service, volunteerism
and collective social responsibility and generating experiences
that enjoy extensive international recognition.
Governmental senior officials, Representatives from different
Universities and Directors of NGOs from 14 countries of Latin
America attended the workshop, which was held under the academic
supervision of the Ben Gurion University of Beersheva.
