The United Nations Volunteers Program, the Inter-American Initiative on
Social Capital, Ethics and Development of the IDB and UN-Habitat will
launch on December 5th, 2004 -The International Day of Volunteering - a

is to recognize cities where government and civil society are committed in
using volunteerism as a tool for local development and the achievement of
the Millennium Development Goals". The cities will be selected by an
expert committee and will be awarded worldwide at the end of every
year.
