JA-L1027 :Road Improvement Program
Description: As part of the Decade of Action for Road Safety, the Bank approved one of the first road safety loans in Jamaica in 2010. The purpose of the loan is to help the government improve the road safety conditions of critical sections and stretches of Jamaica's major roadways. The loan is also geared toward enhancing the Ministry of Transport's ability to analyze information and make recommendations for improving road safety. The funds will support the competitiveness and development of the Jamaican government with the repairs made and improvement seen in road traffic. The project has multiple components: institutional strengthening, road improvement, vehicle safety, and care for road users.

CO-L1076 : Institutional Support for the Integrated Public Transport System
Description: In conjunction with the Universidad de los Andes in Bogota, Colombia, the Bank is conducting a study to determine the benefit-cost ratio of investing in road safety in urban settings and measuring the impact that mass transit systems, like bus rapid transit (BRT), have had on road accident rates.
This project is funded with support provided by the Bank to the Colombian government through a technical assistance loan (2136/OC-CO) and other technical cooperation operations (ATN/OC-11321-CO and ATN/GM-11571-CO).It is part of the Integrated Public Transport System (SITP) design and implementation portion of the transit sector strategy.
In addition, this study is part of the Road Safety Initiative and helps improve evidence showing the importance of making safer roads in urban areas and of investing in road safety actions with a view to driving down the occurrence, severity, and consequences of road accidents permanently.
