IDB successfully participates in the CISEV III, the main regional event in Road Safety

Projects, studies and the Bank's strategy for Road Safety in Latin America and the Caribbean were presented during the event.

On June 2012 Bogota held the III Latin American Congress on Road Safety (CISEV). The event based its success in the participation of professionals, academics, students, government officials, private industry, NGOs and multilateral banks. The Congress provided a space for discussion and knowledge sharing including the challenges the region is facing in terms of road safety and the actions required to address these needs.

The CISEV highlighted that countries have taken significant steps regarding the development and consolidation of their road safety policies, among them the structure of leading agencies, the allocation of specific, concrete actions and involvement of different incumbent actors. However, it should be noted that there are still challenges to be addressed in the region and the extent of these commitments at a local authority level. This is described in the Declaration of Bogota.

During the event's closing ceremony, Colombian Minister of Transport, Miguel Peñaloza Barrientos stressed the importance of the humanization of the roads. The Minister highlighted the Colombian government's commitment to increase the protection of users of the transport network through actions such as: encouraging improvements in safety standards for vehicles sold in our region, special attention to vulnerable road users and strengthening the institutional capacity of agencies to manage road safety activities, among others. Actions in which he emphasized the participation and collaboration of the Inter-American Development Bank.
