IDB and IPC to examine Food Security and Trade in the Asia-Pacific & LAC Region

IDB leads delegation from LAC during the Global Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) Conference in Seoul, Korea
Twenty-five officers representing 18 customs administrations from the region presented progress reports on AEO programs before more than 800 private sector representatives from around the world, officers from 90 customs administrations, and the Korean Vice Minister of Strategy and Finance, Mr. Shin Je-Yoon.

IDB, Wal-Mart, and Weconnect launch project to incorporate women-owned businesses in global value chains
The IDB in collaboration with Wal-Mart and WEConnect has launched the project “Incorporating Women-owned Businesses in Global Value Chains”. The goal of this project is for women-owned businesses (WOBs) in Chile, Costa Rica, and Peru to gain access to new markets and increase their economic productivity as employers and community leaders.

IDB launches technical cooperation project to support the FTA between Colombia and the US
The Integration and Trade Sector launched a technical cooperation project to support Colombia during the implementation process of the free trade agreement with the US. The goal of the project is to reinforce the institutional capacity of the public entities involved in the commercial agenda to face the challenges that the implementation of such a complex agreement entails and to take actions to allow Colombia to maximize the economic benefits of the FTA.

IDB participates in US International Trade Commission dialogue
The roundtable discussion allowed for a broad exchange of views on methodologies for analyzing the impacts of trade agreements on signatory countries. In addition, the event covered topics such as the effects of agreements on employment, investment, and trade in services, as well as rules of origin, trade facilitation measures, and other issues.

Fourth regional meeting on “Economic Analysis of Public Policies with Computable General Equilibrium Models”
The meeting brought together researchers and experts from international organizations and universities from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, and Uruguay, as well as from Australia, France, Spain, and the United States, giving them the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of CGE modeling, analyze its importance for public policy, and discuss cutting-edge analytical issues.

IDB and CARICOM move forward with Caribbean Regional Integration
As key partners in the Caribbean, the IDB and the CARICOM Secretariat confirmed their collaboration in support of regional integration. The Secretary-General reported that the Secretariat is preparing a Regional Development Strategy and undertaking institutional reforms to ensure that the integration needs of the Member States are met.

Opportunities for public-private partnerships
The IDB prepared five technical papers for the meeting that outline opportunities for the private sector to help the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean address development challenges. The IDB documents covered the following areas: Social Development and the Private Sector; Human Capital for Economic Growth; Globalization: Value Chain Development in the Americas; Economic Growth and Natural Resources in Latin America; and Intelligent Transport and Infrastructure.

Obama, Rousseff and Santos closed the Summit in a roundtable discussion about the economic challenges in LAC (Video)
At the end of the CEO Summit, Presidents Dilma Rousseff of Brazil, Juan Manuel Santos of Colombia and Barack Obama of the United States participated in a roundtable discussion about economic challenges and regional integration in Latin America and the Caribbean, in front of an audience that included almost 700 top executives from many of the Western Hemisphere’s leading companies.
