Independent Assessment

In 2009, the Bank convened the Independent Advisory Group on Sustainability (IAG), in fulfillment of a commitment the Bank made in 2006, when it adopted the new Environment and Safeguards Compliance Policy. At that time the IDB pledged to report its experience with the implementation of the policy and obtain an independent evaluation of the achievement of its objectives within three years. The nine-person Advisory Group, chaired by Dr. Tom Lovejoy, conducted its assessment throughout 2009 and 2010 and presented its findings to the Board of Executive Directors in February 2011.

During the design and preparation of the Environment and Safeguards Compliance Policy the Bank engaged with the Blue Ribbon Panel on Environment, chaired by the Honorable Bruce Babbitt.
