What is PRODEV?
The Program to Implement the External Pillar of the Medium-Term Action Plan (PRODEV) is an IDB initiative for financing technical cooperation operations and training to government officials in order to enhance the effectiveness among Latin American and the Caribbean Region’s governments, thus allowing them to achieve better results in their development interventions.PRODEV has flexible tools that will allow some of the countries to achieve the public management level they desire.
PRODEV’s Objective
PRODEV's main objective is to consistently support borrowing country members that are interested on improving public sector management (in terms of design, implementation, policy monitoring and evaluation,, strategies, programs, and projects) with coherent allocation and use of public sector resources in central ministries and departments (e.g., finance, planning, and budget); sector line ministries (e.g., health, infrastructure, and education); and sub-national governments (state, provincial, municipal, and local).
Program progess
Up to March 2011, 21 countries had approved technical cooperations in order to support country diagnoses; and 17 countries to implement action plans.
In addition, at the subnational level, 25 technical cooperations have been and 5 other operations are in advanced stage.
Regarding PRODEV's complementary activities, approximately 7,700 government officials and Civil Society members have participated in over 100 national and regional trainings, promotion and dissemination events, that include courses, workshops, seminars and videoconferences.
