Parliamentarian Forum on MfDR

Congress plays an important role in the region where most of the countries have strong presidential regimes, demanding consistency and coherence in terms of planning and budget.

The Parliamentarian Forum on MfDR, launched in April 2006, has a very specific and robust program that supports parliamentarians in the region, gathering chairpersons and members of Budget and Finance Committees, to discuss topics of interest, exchange ideas, and share best practices.

Seven regional meetings have been organized (Buenos Aires in 2006, Lima in 2006, Panama City in 2007, Montevideo in 2008, Santo Domingo in 2009, Mexico City 2in 010, and Kingston in 2011);an event for Parliamentarians in the Caribbean, jointly organized with the IMF/WB and, a workshop for Congress people in Paraguay (both were held in Washington, D.C.). Additionally, PRODEV has jointly organized national seminars for congress people and staffers with the Budget Commissions of the Parliaments of Honduras, Peru, and Uruguay.

So far, more than 250 senators and house representatives (including 52 chairpersons), Secretaries and advisors for Budget, Treasure and Finance or from equivalent entities from 35 in 35 countries, have participated in the Parliamentarian Forum. The next meeting will be held in 2012.
