Supporting entrepreneurship in Peru
The IDB mobilized the equivalent of $36 million in Peruvian soles to Mibanco – Banco de la Microempresa S.A. to increase microfinancing to women entrepreneurs in Peru.
Mobilizing resources for renewable energy
In order to mobilize the considerable resources necessary to create Eurus, the largest wind farm (250 MW) in Latin America and the Caribbean, the IDB, through its structure finance department, helped raise $600 million in new investment and $345 million in debt.
Greater international integration
In order to facilitate cross-border trade, the IDB has developed INTradeBID, which is an on-line tool that gathers a set of applications to help users understand, analyze and utilize different trade agreements.
Strengthening the housing sector in Mexico
In the beginning of 2008, in light of changes in global financial markets and the advent of the subprime crisis in the United States, Sociedad Hipotecaria Federal (SHF), the Mexican Government’s Housing Finance Agency, requested that the IDB evaluate ways to support the lower-middle income housing finance market in Mexico.
Fostering private sector development and competitiveness in the Caribbean
The IDB, in partnership with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and the UK Department for International Development (DFID), established the Compete Caribbean program.
