Health Lead Specialist - Panama
Emma Iriarte is a Health Lead Specialist at the IDB´s office in Panama. At this position, she is currently the Executive Secretary of the Salud Mesoamérica 2015 Initiative (SM2015), managed by the Social Protection and Health Division at the IDB and sponsored by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Carlos Slim Health Institute, and the Spanish Government.
Prior to joining the IDB, Emma acted for seven years as the principal technical health advisor to the U.S. Embassy, USAID and other United States Government members in Honduras on strategic direction of the health portfolio. She has managed, supervised and led health programs related to health sector reform and decentralization, family planning, maternal child health and HIV/AIDS activities. She has experience in systemic and sectorial approaches and in establishing strategic alliances with government counterparts, international agencies, non-governmental organizations and civil society entities. Emma Iriarte is a medical doctor graduated from the National University of Honduras and has a Master degree in Public Health from Tulane University in New Orleans.
