In Brazil, the overall poverty rate fell consistently from 29.8% (1999) to 13.5% (2008). However there is still a significant gap between the poverty rates for pardos (browns), pretos (blacks), and brancos (whites) 18.9%, 14.5%, and 8.4% respectively.
