Launch of the Decade of Sustainable Energy for All Americas (SE4ALL Americas)
With the participation of Chilean President Ms. Michelle Bachelet, UN SE4ALL Special Representative Mr. Kandeh Yumkella, and the other high authorities who opened the event, the decade of SE4ALL was launched in Santiago, Chile October 15-17, 2014. The dignitaries expressed hope that the event would be successful and helpful and encourage greater efforts to achieve the inclusion of the poor in the development process and to make development sustainable. The first day of the event included politically oriented plenaries that touched on the key topics of the three pillars. The second day, the event was divided into parallel sections, one for each pillar, where topics like markets, policy, regulation, and new technology were discussed. The third day ended with plenary sessions and presentations of the results of work groups. The work groups concluded that it was necessary to coordinate activities in the region among different institutions. They also discussed the necessity of having a place for the transfer of knowledge and experience among different actors, including public, private, and civil society, and how they can advance efficiently and effectively towards achieving the proposed SE4ALL goals.
