The Alianza por la Infancia is the Bank´s multi-sector initiative for promoting ECD and readiness to learn throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. Through the Alianza, the Bank seeks to promote collaborative efforts between governments, families, civil society and the private sector to support innovative interventions in this area.

This bank-wide initiative provides the intellectual foundation for projects and research in Early Childhood Development and readiness to learn.

It is built around five principles that speak to the need to:

• Invest early
• Insist on quality
• Target resources and interventions
• Incorporate ECD and readiness to learn into national policies and strategies, and
• Bring new partners (e.g., private sector, civil society, philanthropists) to the table.
