Country Strategy (CS)
The Country Strategy (CS) is a document containing key parameters that are the subject of a Bank-country agreement. These parameters include strategic areas for Bank action aligned with country needs and governments’ plans and priorities. The CS includes developmental challenges by priority sectors with metrics, baselines, and notional targets to measure results.
The timeframe for a CS is a period of years that typically coincides with the country’s political cycle. The CS is complemented by Country Program Documents (CPD) that includes lending for Sovereign and Non-Sovereign Guaranteed Operations, as well as technical assistance aligned with the CS. CPDs are prepared and evaluated on an annual basis, and their aggregated outputs are likely to lead to expected Country Strategy outcomes.
