Citizen Security
The IDB’s primary mission in the area of Citizen Security is to provide our member countries in Latin America and the Caribbean with intelligent, timely, and cost-effective support that addresses the different kinds of insecurity that impede economic and social development.
Citizen security is a priority issue in the region, and therefore to the IDB as well. The IDB is a multilateral development agency that has pioneered in support for citizen security, violence prevention and comprehensive rehabilitation programs in Latin America and the Caribbean. The Bank has provided 13 loans for citizen security projects and a large number of grants to design and/or support the implementation of major initiatives in the region.
The Bank offers its clients its technical and financial capacity, in addition to its traditional lending resources, to actively participate with member countries in implementing targeted and innovative initiatives, including the following:
- Comprehensive sectoral analyses that form the basis for strategic public policies that promote transparency and respect for human and civil rights
- Grants for technical assistance in different areas.
- Creation of knowledge and successful experiences.
- Promotion of dialogue to promote strategic alliances among national governments, subnational entities, civil society, and the private sector on ways to ensure that citizen security policies are transparent, effective, and sustainable.
- Project monitoring and evaluation mechanisms that measure results and optimize impacts.
