About the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and its Annual Meeting

The IDB, the oldest and largest regional multilateral development bank, is the main source of multilateral financing for economic, social and institutional development in Latin America and the Caribbean. The IDB Group provides loans and grants to help finance development projects and supports strategies in key areas such as poverty reduction; promotion of sustainable energy and mitigation of climate change impact, investments in water and sanitation, infrastructure and education, and private sector development. The IDB obtains its own financial resources from its 48 member countries. The IDB is headquartered in Washington, D.C. and it has offices throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. The IDB’s Annual Meeting is considered one of the premier annual forums on development issues in the Latin American and Caribbean region. In 2012, this Meeting will take place in Montevideo, Uruguay, and will bring together IDB governors, most of whom are finance ministers, ministers of economy, Central Bank presidents; also, representatives from multilateral financial institutions, development agencies, and commercial and investment banks, which are instrumental in shaping the region’s economic and social agenda.
