IDB Group loans, credits and grants have increased considerably through the four windows open to the private sector: the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF), the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC), the Opportunities for the Majority Initiative (OM) and the Structured and Corporate Finance Department (SCF). The IDB Group finances innovative and sustainable projects in virtually all sectors of the economy.
The IDB Group has been working closely with the private sector to leverage additional resources to carry out bigger scale projects that will have an impact on the development of the region. The IDB Group has ratified its commitment as an ally of the private sector for regional development and growth, acting as co-financier and partner in specific initiatives, and also through its corporate social responsibility policies.
The IDB Group strongly promotes the dissemination of learned lessons and best practices in collaboration with its partners and stakeholders. Our aim is to create a space in which to continue improving the experiences of those who are committed to private sector development as a way of generating positive changes in economies for the majority of the population. As part of this relationship, the IDB Group has increased its technical assistance and consulting work in areas that are fundamental for private sector development.
The IDB’s Better Conditions for Productivity, or Mejora del Ambiente Productivo (MAP), supports innovative activities and leading research on financial and private sector development through regular calls for proposals. The MAP contributes to areas like SME development, credit and training tools for banks and entrepreneurs, agricultural and green finance, and informality, among others. The work focuses on rigorous impact evaluations and activities that improve effectiveness of IDB operations.
