Financial Instruments for the Private Sector

The IDB Group, through its four private sector windows, provides private and state-owned companies, financial institutions and non-governmental organizations in Latin America and the Caribbean with tailored solutions to meet specific needs.

Our four private sector windows are: Structured and Corporate Finance (SCF), the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC), the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF), and Opportunities for the Majority (OMJ), which offer complementary products and services.

Non-sovereign guaranteed instruments provided by the IDB Group consist of:

Loans:

  • Clients: Available to small, medium and large companies, financial intermediaries as well as non-profit organizations
  • Characteristics: Long-tenors, dollar and other currencies at market-based, fixed or floating interest rates
  • Windows: Structured and Corporate Finance Department (SCF), the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC), the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF), and Opportunities for the Majority (OMJ).

Partial Credit Guarantees:

  • Clients: Available to small, medium and large companies, financial intermediaries as well as non-profit organizations
  • Characteristics: Partial credit guarantees carry fees or premiums that are market based and depend on the risk covered and market benchmarks.
  • Windows: Structured and Corporate Finance Department (SCF), the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC), and Opportunities for the Majority (OMJ).

Equity:

  • Clients: Direct and indirect investment in SMEs and investment in equity and venture capital funds
  • Characteristics: Up to $5 million.
  • Windows: The Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF) and the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC).

Political risk guarantees:

  • Clients: Large companies and financial intermediaries.
  • Characteristics: Political risk guarantees carry fees determined on a case-by-case basis depending on the risk covered and the nature of the guarantees’ structure.
  • Window: Structured and Corporate Finance Department (SCF)

Technical Assistance:

  • Clients: Available to small, medium and large companies, financial intermediaries as well as non-profit organizations
  • Characteristics: non-reimbursable financing sizes range from $ 100,000 to $2 million; counterpart financing is required.
  • Windows: Structured and Corporate Finance Department (SCF), the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC), the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF), and Opportunities for the Majority (OMJ).
