Lora, Eduardo - Economist

Eduardo Lora, a Colombian citizen, has coordinated several editions of the IDB flagship publications (IPES / DIA): Beyond Facts: Understanding Quality of Life (Development in the Americas, 2009); Competitiveness: The Business of Growth (Economic and Social Progress Reports, IPES, 2001); Development Beyond Economics (IPES, 2000); Facing Up to Inequality in Latin America (IPES, 1998/9); and Latin America After a Decade of Reforms (IPES, 1997).
Mr. Lora has edited (or coedited) 12 books on economic and social policy issues, most recently The Quality of Life in Latin American Cities (with A. Powell, B. van Praag, and P. Sanguinetti, 2010); Paradox and Perception (with Carol Graham, 2009); and, The State of State Reform in Latin America (2007). Additionally, he has written several textbooks including Methods of Economic Measurement (available in Spanish only), which is now in its fourth edition and has been reprinted 15 times.
He has a regular column in the Colombian magazine Dinero and has published numerous articles on development issues in academic journals.
Mr. Lora holds an undergraduate degree in Economics from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia and a Master of Science degree in Economics from the London School of Economics. He has received various academic and professional awards, including the title of “Distinguished Alumnus” of the London School of Economics. Before joining the Bank in 1996, Mr. Lora was Executive Directive of Fedesarollo in Bogotá, Colombia.
