AR0176 : Education Program

Project Description

This program seeks to improve the quality, equity, and efficiency of education in the provinces, particularly for students from low-income families. The three components are: (a) reform and expansion of secondary education; (b) incorporation of information and communications technologies in schools; and (c) strengthening education system management.. Component 1 funds: (a) improvement in secondary school quality through institutional and curricular reorganization of schools, human resource development, and establishment of education adaptation and innovation centers; (b) support for equity through financing Stage 2 of the national student bursary program, student retention projects, and distribution of teaching resources and textbooks; and (c) expansion of coverage and upgrading of school buildings, to include construction of new schools, major renovations, minor renovations, and school equipment. Component 2 funds: (a) basic training for teachers, principals, and administrative staff; (b) advanced school-based training; (c) procurement and production of training and teaching materials; (d) technology connectivity infrastructure; and (e) provision of computer equipment. Component 3 funds the installation and upgrading of systems for planning, regulation, evaluation, and control of the education systems at the level of both the federal and provincial education ministries. Schools will receive assistance and equipment for design and installation of school management information systems.
