Resource Mobilization

- Contributed to the promotion of the 9th General Capital Increase of the IDB and the replenishment of the Fund for Special Operations (FSO).
- Strengthened dialogue with governments and development agencies of European member countries and Israel.
- Despite severe budgetary restrictions, resources mobilized in 2010 reached a total of US$ 1,020 million. Contributions to trust funds received were $140 million, and total co-financing from institutions based in Europe was $880 million. Partners include: AECID-ICO, AFD, EIB, KfW, NIB, OeEB, SIMEST, SOFID, the European Commission, Nordic Investment Bank/Nordic Development Fund, OFID, DEG, Proparco, FMO, DFID.
Example of projects financed:
- A €40 million loan was approved to cofinance the Sustainable Energy and Rural Electrification project in Nicaragua. LAIF EIB
- $2.6 million contribution for the IIC GreenPyme (Green SME) initiative Fund.
Trust funds and initiatives financed: Mesoamerican Health Initiative (contribution of $50 million from Spain); Aquafund, Gender and Diversity, Market Solutions to Mobilize Social Change, SECCI ($1 million), Aid for Trade fund, Knowledge Economy, Water and Sanitation Fund, among others. Donor trust funds at the IDB are a critical source not only of grant financing for technical cooperation and investment grants, but also of know-how, expertise, and transfer of knowledge.
- EUR participated in meetings for the 5th Global Environment Facility (GEF) Replenishment. A replenishment of $4.3 billion was agreed at a meeting in Paris.
