Europe and the IDB
The role of the IDB Office in Europe (EUR) is to contribute to the strengthening of relations and cooperation between the Bank and its European member countries and Israel, as well as with the institutions of the European Union and other international organizations based in Europe. EUR is one of two Regional Offices under the Office of Outreach and Partnerships and its activities are coordinated with its HQs in Washington, DC.

The key elements of our mission are to mobilize resources through contributions to trust funds, ordinary capital, FSO, MIF, and project co-financing, for the economic and social development of Latin America and the Caribbean; to undertake a strategic dialogue and enhance partnerships between the IDB and public sector institutions in Europe and Israel (governments, bilateral and multilateral institutions); to strengthen partnerships with private sector institutions and civil society organizations in Europe and Israel; and to improve the quality of the dialogue between Europe, Israel and Latin America on core issues of development. In this regard, the EUR Work Program includes:
- Representing the Bank in the European member countries and Israel, the European Union institutions, European Investment Bank, OFID, OECD, WTO, UNESCO, FAO, IFAD, WFP, and other European-based international organizations;
- Strengthening partnerships with bilateral development agencies, geared towards resource mobilization for economic and social development;
- Strengthening partnerships with private sector institutions, through the PSLO network as well as business chambers and other networks;
- Networking European and Latin American constituencies in specific areas of best practices and analytical work, in order to improve public policies in LAC and strengthen European –LAC relationships;
- Carrying out knowledge exchange and outreach activities in Europe, in coordination with IDB headquarters;
- Providing information and analysis to headquarters on European events and issues that may have an impact on the Bank’s activities (with particular reference to opportunities for resource mobilization, co-finance and other financial resources);
- Representing the Bank in meetings and conferences; and
- Cooperating in the recruitment of European and Israeli professionals.
