Luis Alberto Moreno, President of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and the Hon. Alison Redford, Premier of the Government of Her Majesty the Queen in the Right of Alberta (Government of Alberta), Canada, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to join forces on initiatives and programs that support sustainable energy in the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) Region.
The Government of Alberta recognizes the benefits of international cooperation to leverage knowledge and capacity building in different jurisdictions, and aspires to be a global energy leader engaged in research, development, and education related to sustainability and all aspects of integrated energy systems. This Canadian Province is endowed with vast natural resources and has invested in the technology necessary to harness them; it is now looking forward to improving the sustainability of energy systems through the sharing of expertise, mutual learning, and ideas to contribute to the sustainable development of the Region.
The IDB, the largest source of development financing in LAC, with numerous ongoing initiatives on promoting sustainable access to energy throughout the region, will bring its own extensive expertise and resources to the partnership. The joint work between the IDB and the Government of Alberta will be comprised of collaborationin the development of technical cooperation, knowledge dissemination, capacity building programs and the organization of events and seminars on issues related to energy efficiency, integrated energy systems, environmental cumulative impacts, resource development, technology development and policy development and sustainability.
