MICI Attends Land Titling Workshop

John Garrison, Outreach and Communications Advisor at MICI, participated in the workshop “Securing Tenure Rights to Protect Forests andCombatClimate Change: Exploring the Role of Development Finance” held on October 11 in Washington DC. The event was organized by several CSOs who work with land titling and environmental protection issues worldwide.

The workshop focused on two major issues: i) various experiences and approaches to promoting indigenous people’s land titling; and ii) advances and challenges related to indigenous-led forest management and climate change mitigation efforts.The workshop brought together some 60 participants including: indigenous and CSO leaders from several Latin American, Asian, and African countries; US-based CSO representatives; and representatives from the World Bank and IDB.



Organizers were: Oxfam, Bank Information Center (BIC), Forest Peoples Program, Rights & Resources, and Land Rights Now.
