Latin America/Caribbean and Asia/Pacific Economics and Business Association (LAEBA)
The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), through its, Institute for the Integration of Latin America and the Caribbean and the Integration and Trade Sector, and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), through the ADB Institute, have undertaken a joint initiative to promote and launch a new professional association, the "Latin America/Caribbean and Asia/Pacific Economics and Business Association (LAEBA)". LAEBA is dedicated to strengthening linkages between the Latin America/Caribbean and Asia/Pacific regions, through a variety of activities including the promotion of research.
The creation of LAEBA responds to a growing recognition in both regions of the need to develop an inter-regional mechanism to link academic research with policymakers and the private sector. With this purpose, the IDB and the ADB signed an agreement on March 17, 2001, during the 42nd Annual Meeting of the IDB Board of Governors and the 16th Annual Meeting of the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC) Board of Governors in Santiago, Chile.
LAEBA has the following objectives:
- Encourage comparative and applied research in the areas of economics, finance, business economics, and public policy of both regions.
- Provide an inter-regional framework for professional networks to collaborate on issues of mutual interest between the regions.
- Facilitate and inform the process of economic policy-making and private sector decisions through enhanced interaction among policy makers, academics, and the business community.
