Country Strategy

Together, IDB staff and Honduras determine how Honduras's priorities coincide with the Bank’s development strategies for the region. The product of that process is the IDB country strategy with Honduras, containing the Bank’s expected program for Honduras for 2011-2014.

Country strategies include an overview of the country’s current economic situation. They draw on analytical work conducted by the Bank and other parties on a wide range of economic and social sectors, such as rural and urban development, health, education, government modernization, transportation, trade, and the environment, among others.

Honduras Operational Strategy (2011-2014)

The Bank’s country strategy with Honduras for 2011–2014 will focus on five sectors: (i) public management; (ii) the financial system; (iii) social protection; (iv) health; and (v) energy. The selection of sectors was agreed upon with the Government of Honduras, based on the objectives, targets, and indicators contained in the Government Plan 2010–2014 and on the assessments conducted by the Bank. The sector composition of the portfolio in execution has also been taken into consideration in determining future areas of intervention. All Bank interventions will attempt to incorporate gender, ethnicity, and cultural relevance considerations.

Efforts will also be made to continue expanding knowledge and deepening the dialogue with the country’s authorities in order to: identify potential risks to food security; support implementation of early childhood development and labor policies; and increase the efficiency of the telecommunications sector. The Bank will also continue its dialogue with the government regarding fiscal sustainability.
