Internships

Summer / Winter Program

The purpose of the Internship Program is to provide an opportunity for university students to learn about the operations of the IDB, and to acquire work experience at the professional level through on-the-job training during their vacation before returning to their studies.

Each year the Inter-American Development Bank hires almost 100 university students for a period of two to three months. Before the end of the internship, the departments and the interns must submit a brief report about their experience in the Bank and provide ideas and suggestions that can help improve the Program in future years.

To be eligible for the IDB Summer / Winter Internship Program, the candidate must meet all the following requirements (all mandatory):

  • Citizen of one of the Bank's member countries.
  • University student working towards a Graduate Level Degree (or equivalent) in an accredited university, who will not graduate before the period of the internship.
  • Proficient in at least one of the official languages of the Bank (English, Spanish, Portuguese, and French), and preferably, with a working knowledge of a second one.
  • Has not reached the age of 31 as of January 1, of the year of participation in the program.
  • Candidates hired in the past by the IDB Summer/Winter Intern Program do not qualify.

IDB Diversity Internship Program

Committed to promoting gender equality, diversity and inclusion, the IDB strives to attract the strongest candidates from its member countries. A greater representation of Individuals of African and Indigenous descent, who make up large  communities in Latin America and the Caribbean, would enhance the mission of the Bank in the region. We also seek to attract candidates living with disabilities.

The Diversity Internship Program will provide participants the opportunity to acquire work experience at the professional level while giving the Bank the chance to benefit from the diverse backgrounds, knowledge and talent that the interns may bring to the Institution.
