Sergio Díaz-Granados is Alternate Executive Director for Colombia and Peru at the Inter-American Development Bank. Mr. Díaz-Granados served as Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism in President Juan Manuel Santos’ administration. As Minister, he headed the trade negotiations leading to the establishment of the Pacific Alliance. He also launched bilateral trade negotiations with South Korea, Japan, Israel, Costa Rica, Panama, Venezuela and the European Union.
During his tenure as Minister, Mr. Díaz-Granados promoted the policy for productive transformation which drove the growth of non-mining energy exports and foreign direct investment. He also implemented a strategy for the development of the service sector, with particular emphasis on business process outsourcing, information technology, software, and tourism.
He has served on the Boards of BANCOLDEX, the business development bank of Colombia; ProColombia, the export, investment, and tourism promotion agency; the National Tourism Fund; and “Marca País,” Colombia’s national branding initiative, among others. Before joining the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Mr. Díaz-Granados served as President of ANATO, the Association of Travel Agencies and Tourism, as Deputy Minister of Enterprise Development, and as a member of the House of Representatives of Colombia. In 2013, he was selected as a national leader by the newspaper El Espectador.
