Tom Crowards is Alternate Executive Director for the Office of Croatia, Japan, Korea, Portugal, Slovenia and United Kingdom at IDB. Prior to this position, he was Senior Counselor for United Kingdom from 2014 to 2016.
Much of Mr. Crowards’ professional career was at the UK government’s Department for International Development (DFID), where he started in 2003. At DFID he established the macroeconomics team in the London headquarters and worked as senior economist and deputy head in the Ghana and Bangladesh country offices. Prior to joining DFID, he was Government Economist in the island of St. Helena, Country Economist and Research Economist at the Caribbean Development Bank in Barbados, and Research Associate and Lecturer in environmental economics at the University of East Anglia in the United Kingdom. He also taught senior-level economics and mathematics at a government high school in Zimbabwe for three years and served as District Electorate Superviser for the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia.
He holds a B.A. in Economics and Statistics with 1st Class Honours from Exeter University in the UK, and a Master of Science in Environmental and Resource Economics from University College London.
