Antonio Silveira is Executive Director for Brazil and Suriname at the Inter-American Development Bank. From 2014 to June 2016, Mr. Silveira recently served as Executive Director at the World Bank Group representing Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Haiti, Panama, Philippines, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago. He was also a member of both the Budget Committee and the Committee of Development Effectiveness. In the Brazilian Federal Government he served as Vice Minister of the Secretariat of Ports of the Presidency after assuming the post of Acting Minister of State in 2013. Previously, he served as Secretary and Deputy Secretary of the Secretariat of Economic Monitoring, Ministry of Finance. He was also Deputy Chief of Economic Advisory Services, and prior to that, and Advisor at the Ministry of Budget and Planning.
During the ten years Dr. Silveira worked for the Brazilian government, he worked on areas related to investment in infrastructure, including legal frameworks for PPP and concessions, modeling concessions of toll roads, airports, ports, railways, energy generation and transmission, among other issues and initiatives. At the Ministry of Finance, he worked on analysis of mergers and acquisitions, supervision of the regulatory agencies and modeling of financial instruments for infrastructure projects.
Born in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Dr. Silveira has a Doctorate in Economics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and holds a tenured position at the Department of Economics of the Federal University of Bahia. From 1990 to 2004, he taught macroeconomics, public finance and history of economics thought, both on the undergraduate and graduate levels.
